Sega has today reported strong figures for the first fiscal half of 2003, with net profits of 5.9 billion yen ($54 million) for the April to September period, up from 1 billion yen ($9.2 million) for the same period last year. Sega's actual sales for the period dipped to 93.47 billion yen ($860 million) from 95 billion yen ($873 million) a year ago.
Sega attributed its success to strong sales of its arcade games in North America and Europe and has reaffirmed its forecast of a profit of 8 billion yen ($73.6 million) on sales of 195.7 billion yen ($1.8 billion) for the year ending March 31, 2004. Sega also raised its target for global game software sales for this fiscal year from 9.25 million to 9.38 million.
