Sega Gamer's Day 2000: Samba Gets a Sequel-October 2024
Oct 28, 2024 6:30 AM

At its Gamer's Day event in San Francisco today, Sega announced that it would be bringing the Japanese sequel to Samba De Amigo to US shores. Known as Samba De Amigo 2000 in Japan, the game will be renamed to Samba De Amigo 2001 when it hits the states next Summer.

Samba De Amigo 2001 will feature new modes, and several new takes on the classic maraca shaking gameplay. The game will feature an enhanced love mode, a new maraca volleyball game, a new go-go mode, and an enhanced hustle mode, among others. While the first game had a distinctly Latin musical theme, Samba De Amigo 2001 will be based on Caribbean music, and will inspire players to sway their hips and shake their maracas in tune with the rhythm.

The game will feature new characters and new enhanced backgrounds. Sega is exploring the possibility of licensed music for the new game, and will no doubt include several new grooves to help players get their boogie on.

Samba De Amigo 2001 is being developed by Sonic Team and will hit the states with style in Summer 2001. Sega also plans on re-releasing their maracas alongside the game, and stated that it will possibly re-design the maracas and hopes to lower the maracas' costly $80 price tag.
