Although Jigsaw, the latest movie in the Saw series, was released less than two years ago, the franchise is being rebooted by none other than actor and comedian Chris Rock. The new Saw film is now in production, and it has been announced that Rock will be joined in the cast by Samuel L. Jackson.
As reported by Variety, Jackson is playing the father to Rock's character, a cop investigating a series of grisly murders. The cast also include Max Minghella (The Handmaid's Tale, The Social Network), who will play Rock's assistant on the case, and Riverdale's Marisol Nichols as a police captain.

Now Playing: Who The Hell Is Jigsaw?
The story for the new Saw movie has been written by Rock, with the screenplay by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, who also wrote Jigsaw. In May, Rock explained that he was a huge fan of the series, stating that he plans to take it into "a really intense and twisted new place." The movie is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who previously helmed Saw 2, 3, and 4, and releases on October 23, 2020.
This isn't the first time a high-profile horror movie has been co-written by an actor best known for comedy roles. Eastbound and Down star Danny McBride worked on last year's Halloween reboot, which grossed more than $254 million worldwide. It was recently rumored that a Halloween sequel is on the way.
Although Jigsaw wasn't as successful as some of the other entries, it still made $102 million worldwide, from an estimated production budget of $10 million. For more Saw coverage on GameSpot, check out the Saw movie series ranked from worst to best.
