Sammy Studios announced today that it's working with Fox Television Studios to create a video game version of The Shield, the Emmy-nominated police drama series on the FX cable network. Like the television show, the game will focus on Detective Vic Mackey (played by Michael Chiklis) and his strike team as they bring rough justice to the crime-plagued Los Angeles district of Farmington, the series' fictional setting.
Developed by Point of View, the third-person action game will cast players as Mackey and will task them with an assortment of missions, such as apprehending drug dealers and stopping bank robberies. To accomplish these objectives, players will be able to employ less-than-ethical tactics such as intimidating suspects, planting evidence, using brute force, and offering and accepting bribes. By presenting multiple options, the game will let players choose just how good or bad they'd like their cop to be.
Sammy Studios and Point of View are working closely with The Shield's creators to capture the look and feel of the show's universe. The game is currently slated for release on the PlayStation 2 in the first quarter of 2005. We'll bring you more information on The Shield as it becomes available.
