RTS Iron Harvest Is Set in 1920+ World; Gameplay Inspired by Company of Heroes-October 2024
Oct 19, 2024 10:21 AM

Iron Harvest is a brand new real-time strategy game in development at KING Art Games. Announced yesterday, it's set in the 1920+ alternate world created by esteemed Polish artist Jakub Różalski.

In this fictional version of the world, mankind, fascinated by technology, engines and iron, invented powerful walking machines. Once mighty weapons on the battlefields of the Great War, they are now part of everyday life. You can find more about 1920+ in this post by Różalski himself.

In Iron Harvest, a few years after the Great War secret forces are working towards the destabilization of Europe, determined to set the world on fire and seize control. Three factions have been detailed so far on the official website:

The Saxony Empire is one of the most influential countries in Europe, with powerful industry, developed cities, modern factories and a strong military tradition. After the unfavorable conditions of surrender in the Great War, the current mood in the Empire is bad, and proud elites and humiliated aristocrats secretly oppose the Emperor’s appeasement policies.

The Polania Republic is a large agricultural country with a long history. It is trying to maintain its status and territory, struggling with its aggressive neighbors: The Saxony Empire in the west and Rusviet in the east. Polania initiated a program to modernize its army while a large part of the country is still occupied by Rusviet forces.

Rusviet is huge, powerful, and has unmatched industrial and population potential. However, the country is tired and worn out by the long war. People are frustrated, and the power of Tsar Nikolaj weakens. Mysterious Grigori Rasputin has become an extraordinarily powerful man and revolution is in the air...

Jan Theysen, Project Lead at KING Art Games, shared a brief statement about the gameplay.

We love games like Company of Heroes or Men at War and want to bring a similar gameplay experience to this fantastic world Jakub created. You lead hero characters, mechs, and soldiers into epic battles in open sandbox maps. Cover mechanics and dynamic destruction play a major role in combat.

Iron Harvest is still in early development phase, though; don't expect it before 2018. Interestingly, it will be released on PC/PlayStation 4/Xbox One, making it one of the few real-time strategy games available on console.

KING Art Games is perhaps best known for The Book of Unwritten Tales 1 & 2, though they also dabbled in strategy with the turn-based game Battle Worlds: Kronos. They're now about to release the action RPG The Dwarves, which we previewed at Gamescom 2016; yesterday they released a funny video of the game's credits, where all the 6K backers are mentioned.
