Riven: The Sequel to Myst has sold a million copies to customers since the game's release on October 31, 1997, according to PC Data.
Despite the fact that Riven was on sale for only two months last year, the game was the top-selling CD-ROM title of all of 1997. Interestingly enough, Myst was the second-highest-selling title of 1997 as well.
"The momentum behind Riven is far greater than we had ever expected," said Rand Miller, codirector of Riven and cofounder of Cyan, the firm that developed Myst and Riven. "Since the game shipped, we've been hearing positive feedback from consumers. Now, after reaching the one-million-unit milestone, it's clear the new worlds of Riven have struck a chord with people."
