Riven Patch Explained
Riven Patch Explained-October 2024
Oct 30, 2024 7:29 PM

It's been just over 24 hours since Riven: The Sequel to Myst hit retail shelves and already Broderbund has released a patch for various problems discovered in the game - which has been over two years in the making.

On Friday, when GameSpot News talked to Broderbund spokesperson Eric Winkler, he assured us that the problems were only slight ones and in many cases wouldn't even be noticed by users.

Winkler said that the problem appears to stem from the fact that not everyone has exactly the same drivers on their computers. What this patch does is make sure that it brings the system up to date to deal with the problems if they were ever going to arise.

This isn't a major update for any type of bug that will do any serious damage and Broderbund contemplated waiting a little while before releasing the update - basically because its release comes before the game's official release date. But the company wanted to make sure that "gamers experience Riven exactly as it should be."

Some of the reported problems in the game (on both Windows and Mac versions) include:

  * On certain machines, QuickTime movies play twice.

  * On certain machines, there are a few movies that play in the wrong location.

  * Some users may experience difficulty operating the rotating domes. Some users may experience difficulty turning on the light near the water at the end of one of the tunnels.
