HBO has released an official trailer for Season 2 of its original series The Righteous Gemstones. The nine-episode season will kick off on January 9, 2022 with two half-hour episodes.
The series "tells the story of a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed, and charitable work." In Season 2, the family finds itself "threatened by outsiders from both the past and present who wish to destroy their empire." The Righteous Gemstones stars Danny McBride (Eastbound and Down), John Goodman (Treme), Edi Patterson (Vice Principals), Adam DeVine (Pitch Perfect), Cassidy Freeman (Longmire), Tony Cavalero (School of Rock), Tim Baltz (Drunk History), Skyler Gisondo (Booksmart), and Walton Goggins (Vice Principals). Check out the trailer below, which also teases what promises to be memorable--and wild--roles by Eric Andre (Bad Trip), Eric Roberts (Suits), and Jason Schwartzman (Fargo).
The Righteous Gemstones is created, written, and executive produced by Danny McBride, and is his third HBO comedy series overall. Like Eastbound and Down and Vice Principals, this current series reliably trucks in crude language, outlandish behavior, and characters who are constantly scheming to get and stay ahead.
Earlier this year, it was reported that McBride and his production company Rough House Pictures is collaborating with collectibles manufacturer Topps and former Disney CEO Michael Eisner's Tornante on a potential Garbage Pail Kids animated series for HBO Max.
