Ride In Gaming Style-October 2024
Oct 18, 2024 6:20 AM

Portable game systems such as the game.com, Game Boy, Game Gear, or Lynx have previously been the only way to beat the boredom of a long car trip. While those systems provide plenty of entertainment, it's just not the same as being at home and playing video games on a TV. Well, all that's about to change, thanks to Sony and General Motors.

To be offered as a marquee gift item for the 1997 Neiman Marcus Christmas Book, the two companies have teamed up to outfit a 1998 GMC Suburban with all the latest in technological distractions. Only 100 of the 1998 Sony Limited Edition GMC Suburbans will be manufactured, and owners will receive Sony products and invitations to Sony entertainment events throughout the year.

Loaded into the car will be a 480-watt audio/video system, which includes three amplifiers, a controller unit with a CD player, AM/FM tuner, a separate cassette for rear seat passengers, five sets of headphones, a 10-disc CD changer, three sets of wide-range speakers in the side doors and one set in the rear overhead panels, plus two subwoofers located inside the rear door. The vehicle comes complete with five video monitors, a VCR, and a Sony PlayStation. To store your video cassettes, CDs, and games, the Suburban comes with two Tumi travel cases filled with 100 Sony Music CDs, 24 Columbia TriStar movies, 10 PlayStation games, and limited edition Sony/GMC sports apparel.

Now, wipe away the drool, and take a look at the price before you run to the phone to order. The Sony Limited Edition GMC Suburban costs only US$72,975 to own. Well, who said playing games while traveling didn't have a price tag?
