Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City's Hannah John-Kamen Talks About Filming During A Pandemic And More-October 2024

Hannah John-Kamen plays Jill Valentine in the recently released Resident Evil movie, Welcome to Raccoon City, and now she has shed some more light on what it was like making the film. She discussed how the mansion set was an excellent recreation of the space from the game and she talked about what it was like filming during the pandemic.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, John-Kamen said the Resident Evil movie set was incredible. Specifically, the production design team really nailed it when it came to recreating the mansion from the game, she said.

"This was absolutely amazing because you walk into the mansion and are like, 'I've been here before!' It's identical to the game. Every single detail. So it's an immersive experience because you feel like the video game character. You feel like you're in the game," she said. "It was very, very weird but immersive."

John-Kamen also discussed filming Welcome to Raccoon City during the pandemic and related lockdowns, saying it amounted to a "very different approach" to making a movie.

"Getting into Canada and then isolating with my dog for two weeks before seeing anyone was very different. It wasn't the most amazing start for me, but being locked away, you were just getting overexcited," she said. "I really couldn't wait to start, and it felt a bit cruel in a way. You were nearly there, but you weren't there yet. So it was fine because the cast is so amazing and so welcoming."

GameSpot's Welcome to Raccoon City review scored it a 6/10. "The movie never seems willing to lean into its good ideas, or to risk coloring too far out of the lines established by the game series," Phil Hornshaw said. "It leaves Welcome To Raccoon City feeling like pieces are missing. There's a great Resident Evil adaptation here, if only the movie were willing to really go for it. Instead, it's more concerned with making sure the costumes and sets are on-point, rather than the story."

Welcome to Raccoon City is in theaters now.
