From what we have seen so far, Resident Evil 7, the new entry of the horror series by Capcom, is going to be quite different from past entries. However, it seems like some of the staples of the series will also be in, according to what has been revealed today.
A few hours ago, Resident Evil 7 has received its ESRB rating, with a rating summary also becoming available on the ESRB website. According to the summary, Resident Evil 7 will feature combat, with players using a variety of weapons such as firearms, explosive, flame throwers and chainsaws to kill mutant creatures. The main character's name has also been revealed by the summary.
This is a survival-horror game in which players assume the role of Ethan, a man searching for his missing wife in a derelict mansion. From a first-person perspective, players explore the environment and use pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers, explosives and chainsaws to kill mutant creatures. Combat is accompanied by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and exaggerated blood-splatter effects. As players progress through the story, cutscenes can depict instances of gore and intense acts of violence: a character’s arm dismembered by a chainsaw; a man’s leg taken off at the knee with a shovel; a character impaled through the face with a shovel. Some areas also depict mutilated corpses with exposed organs/viscera. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” are heard in the dialogue.
Resident Evil 7 was among the game we managed to try out during Gamescom 2016 last week. This recent demo did show that some of the series' staples, such as puzzles, would be back in full force, so it's definitely nice to learn that comba will also be in.
Resident Evil 7 launches during January 2017 in all regions on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. We will keep you updated on the game as soon as more comes in on it, so stay tuned for all the latest news.
