Resident Evil 4 Remake features several changes from the game’s original version, which dates back to 2005. One of the most important involves Leon's Combat Knife, which is no longer indestructible now. As a result, you will have to use it carefully, learning to handle it as best you can to minimize the chances of it breaking down before you can repair it. If that happens, however, you can still fix its blade. How? This guide explains everything you need to know about Knives durability in Resident Evil 4 Remake and how to repair them.
WARNING: this guide contains light spoilers of the game’s first chapters.
Once done, you will gain access to additional upgrades for your Combat Knife. You can increase the power of this weapon and its durability. This option, in particular, is of great importance because it directly affects how quickly the knife will break. If you max it out, you can use it for longer, and it should last between one stop at the Merchant and the next.
Even if the Knife does not break, using it directly affects its durability. You can check this meter by looking at the small white gauge under its icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen. You can still repair it to bring this bar back to the max by stopping at the Merchant.
Exploring the map will probably lead you to find other standard knives, such as the Kitchen Knife. This one can be used against enemies, but it has limited durability, and you won’t be able to repair it once it breaks. It can be employed, instead, for crafting ammo.
However, all of this comes at a price. The knife is not unbreakable, and its durability is marked by a bar below its icon in the lower-right corner of the screen. When you use this weapon in combat, its durability will be drained. It can be more or less, depending on the action you perform. A stealth kill will impact this meter more than a stab, and you will probably learn this to your cost during the game’s first chapters.
If you don’t pay enough attention to the Knife’s durability, you will frequently end up with a broken weapon while fighting enemies, with all the problems and limitations that come with it. A Kitchen Knife’s durability drains much faster than your Combat Knife’s, so you’d better not rely on the first type too much. Instead, your personal knife can be upgraded to make it more powerful and resistant and land quicker attacks.
