Resident Evil 4 Original/Remake Comparison Shows Big Changes to Castle, Krauser Fight, More-October 2024
Oct 23, 2024 12:35 AM

Capcom recently gave journalists and influencers a fresh look at the Resident Evil 4 remake, with the latest round of previews being accompanied by some b-roll showing off some areas that we haven’t seen much of before, including Salazar Castle, the underground caverns, and the iconic showdown between Leon and Jack Krauser. But just how much have these sections changed compared to the original Resident Evil 4? The folks at ElAnalistaDeBits lined up the two games, and the contrast is pretty striking.

One major takeaway from the above video is that the original Resident Evil 4 still looks pretty amazing even two decades later. The new version of the castle section looks fairly familiar to the original in terms of tone and general gameplay, albeit with a number of layout tweaks and modern lighting that adds a new level of atmosphere. The caverns look even more significantly overhauled, with new puzzles, enemies, and impressive lighting and water effects seemingly making for a more memorable experience.

As for the Krauser knife fight, while quick-time events have been removed in favor of a focus on the new parry system, there still seem to be a number of scripted sequences that call back to the original game. It looks like Capcom is striking a solid balance between making the fight more modern and flexible, while still keeping things exciting and dramatic.

Wccftech was part of the latest round of Resident Evil 4 previews, with Francesco De Meo coming away impressed with what he saw…

“With its incredible atmosphere kept intact and enhanced by the RE Engine and expanded gameplay, the Resident Evil 4 remake is setting out to be a great game for veterans and newcomers alike. How the many changes will hold up remains to be seen, but from what has been shown so far, it definitely looks like Capcom has done an amazing job remaking one of its most popular games.”

Resident Evil 4 launches on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5 on March 24. For those who haven’t been keeping up, here’s everything you need to know about the game. Expect more details to be shared next Thursday (March 9) during a new Capcom Spotlight showcase.
