Resident Evil 3 Remake Has Shipped 5+ Million Units, Says CAPCOM-November 2024
Nov 10, 2024 5:12 PM

The Resident Evil 3 Remake has now shipped over five million units globally, according to publisher CAPCOM. The sales were primarily driven by a 'digital promotion strategy that incorporated ongoing pricing measures and a focus on sales of the PC version', according to the press release. Translated, this means most sales occurred through promotional discounts through Steam.

The Resident Evil 3 Remake was originally released in March 2020, nearly two years ago. At the time, Nate rated the game 8.5 out of 10, pointing to its shortness as the biggest drawback.

Resident Evil 3 is the franchise’s best action-driven entry since the glory days of Resident Evil 4. A beautifully-balanced combination of white-knuckle mayhem and satisfying old-school tension, Resident Evil 3 is compulsively-munchable popcorn entertainment that, unfortunately, disappears all too quickly. If you’re looking for value, there are certainly meatier games out there, but few that will leave you licking your fingers as happily as this one.

However, out of all the most recent Resident Evil games, Resident Evil 3 Remake is definitely the least successful one. The Resident Evil 2 Remake now sits at 9.30 million units, whereas Resident Evil Village, which came out less than a year ago, already surpassed 5.70 million units.

CAPCOM is pushing the franchise heavily across film and TV, too. Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City launched late last year in theaters to mixed reviews and modest financial success, though that might just be enough to warrant a sequel, which director Johannes Roberts said could be an adaptation of Code Veronica or Resident Evil 4.

Additionally, Netflix is working on a TV series that should focus on Albert Wesker's daughters Jade and Billie Wesker. Wesker himself will be played by Lance Reddick.

The story takes place over two timelines. The first of which involves 14 year old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker moving to New Raccoon City. They come to realise that their father may be concealing dark secrets that could destroy the world. The second timeline takes place over a decade in the future, where only 15 million humans remain, with over 6 billion animals and people being infected with the T-virus. It follows Jade, now thirty, in her efforts to survive in this world.
