"Maximum payneful" may have been the common consensus among critics, but the Mark Wahlberg-led action flick inspired by Remedy's disillusioned cop drama still managed respectable bank. After opening to $18 million in October, the 20th Century Fox production has gone on to gross nearly $40 million as of November, according to IMDB.
Those yields will soon be growing, though, as High-Def Digest reports this week that an unrated edition of Max Payne has been slotted in for a January 20 release on Blu-ray Disc. The home box office release will reportedly include a number of extras, including audio commentary, a documentary, and deleted scenes. The Blu-ray release will also include a picture-in-picture track, as well as BD-Live support.
Remedy's gaming franchise has been dormant since 2003's Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. However, the publisher has repeatedly hinted, most recently this March, that a follow-up is in the works.
