In a press release shared on the official website, Remedy Entertainment announced a partnership with Smilegate Entertainment to work on CROSSFIRE 2, the sequel to the top grossing game worldwide in 2014 with over $1.3 billion.

　　Little is known about CROSSFIRE 2, other than the fact that it should be powered by Epic's Unreal Engine 3 and there should be an even split between PvE (Player versus Environment) and PvP (Player versus Player) activities. The first game was an online Free to Play tactical first person shooter, but it seems like Remedy will mostly work on CROSSFIRE 2's story suggesting that there could be a single player campaign as well.

　　At the CROSSFIRE Vision Summit held in Shanghai during the China Joy 2016 conference, Smilegate revealed that Remedy is responsible for developing the story mode for the upcoming CROSSFIRE 2.

　　The whole team here at Remedy is incredibly excited to be a key partner in developing the future of the CROSSFIRE franchise. Smilegate specifically chose Remedy to bring our unique blend of storytelling, memorable characters and inventive gameplay to CROSSFIRE’s global audience.

　　Smilegate is certainly working hard on this franchise. Six months ago, we reported that Starbreeze will develop a brand new entry of CROSSFIRE tailored for the Western audience; it will be a first person shooter co-op game, something that Starbreeze has a lot of experience with, made with the Valhalla engine.

　　Smilegate is also investing in a CROSSFIRe movie, as reported last October by Variety. Fast & Furious Producer Neal Moritz will produce the film.
