Red Dead Redemption was never released on PC, but players with powerful systems can already enjoy what is essentially a remastered version of the open-world game by Rockstar, thanks to the Xbox 360 emulator Xena.
In a new video shared over the weekend, Digital Foundry took a good look at the state of emulation of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, showing how it can run up to 300 frames per second in certain scenarios at the original resolution of 720p on the Xena emulator. Though these framerates cannot be achieved by most systems, as Digital Foundry did so on an NVIDIA RTX 4090, it's still possible to run the game at resolutions higher than the native version's 720p with plenty of visual improvements on systems not powered by NVIDIA's current flagship graphics card.
Red Dead Redemption is among the few games by Rockstar Games not to have been released on PC, something that makes an eventual remaster of the game even more anticipated. The game was recently rated again, hinting at a possible re-release coming in the future, but nothing has been confirmed so far. Hopefully, more care will be put into this remaster than in the Grand Theft Auto remasters released back in 2021, which launched in a very poor state.
Red Dead Redemption is now available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. We will keep you updated on the rumored remaster as soon as more come in on it, so stay tuned for all the latest news.
