RAM for Sale?
RAM for Sale?-October 2024
Oct 28, 2024 8:31 AM

Since X-Men Vs. Street Fighter's release last week in Japan, there have been questions raised by gamers in the States as to whether the game, and its 4MB RAM upgrade cart, will make it to US shores. The answer is an unexplainable "maybe," according to representatives at both Sega and Capcom.

Support for the Saturn is still trickling from Sega, but has quickly dwindled from third parties. There are only a select few licensees still bringing out games for the system, and many gamers have already turned to importing to get new games.

On the plus side, the 4MB RAM cart can be used with other games that were compatible with the original 1MB RAM cartridge. This means that Marvel Super Heroes, along with other Japanese games, can be played utilizing just the 4MB cart. This easily solves the problem of Capcom or Sega not wanting to bring out the old 1MB cart in the US - bring out the 4MB and you don't need the 1MB cart.

On the down side, Sega has never been very good about getting distribution of its RAM cart for save games, much less an add-on for one or two games (no matter how good the games are). A third-party company could release the cart and save everyone a ton of hassle, but there's no telling how long it would take.

As far as Capcom releasing the game here on the Saturn, it is still on its release-date list for first quarter 1998. But, since it can't be released without the RAM cart, it's dependent on whether that additional piece of hardware makes it over.

What do you think? Should Sega bring the RAM cart here? Is it worth it? Would this breathe new life into the Sega Saturn? at GameSpot News.
