Mplayer has signed up as host for the Queen of the Hill all-female Quake II tourney, which runs March 2 through 28.
Quake fan Julianne Gentile (known as Takhisis to her deathmatch friends and foes) organized the first Queen of the Hill tourney, and she is the rallying force behind this one as well.
Registration for the tournament ended January 31, so it's too late for aspiring female Quake champions to sign up, but QOTH II participants are set to converge on Mplayer's Quake II ranked lobby at 8pm EST on Thursday, February 26, for a tournament kickoff party, where nontournament participants (fellas too) can engage in some deathmatch action.
Open-ranked play begins in the tournament on March 2, running through March 13. The players will be sorted as either high-ping or low-ping depending on their connection speed. The top 16 players, eight each in the low-ping and high-ping categories, move on to the semifinals. Those semifinals begin March 21, where players face off in two four-player semifinal matches. The top eight players, four low-ping and four high-ping, advance to the final round, which begins March 28th. A low- and high-ping Queen of the Hill will then be crowned.
Prizes for the tournament have been donated by id Software, Monolith Productions, the Mining Company, and mplayer.com, among others.
