Quake II for PlayStation
Quake II for PlayStation-April 2024
Apr 2, 2025 9:13 PM

Consolers watching the gory action of Quake II on the PC should get ready to clean their weapons as id Software and Activision have announced that Quake II is being developed for the PlayStation.

Quake II for the PlayStation will feature new levels and monsters along with the gameplay that has made Quake's sequel so popular amongst PC gamers. To date, Quake II has sold more than 900,000 copies worldwide since its explosive release in December. Activision expects that number to climb above one million units by this summer.

"In bringing Quake II to the PlayStation game console, a new segment of gamers will be introduced to the phenomenon of Quake II and the Quake franchise,'' states Robert Kotick, chairman and CEO of Activision. "The game's pounding action, multiplayer mayhem, and never-before-seen levels will provide console players with a powerful new gaming experience.''

This will be the first version to see the light of day on Sony's console. Quake has appeared on both the Nintendo 64 and the Saturn so far. Id's last game on the PlayStation was Final Doom. GT Interactive at one point talked about building Quake for the PlayStation, but the deal apparently fell through.

"The Quake II phenomenon goes on and on,'' said Todd Hollenshead, CEO of id Software. "And the PlayStation console is one more arena where our fans can devastate and annihilate everything in their path."

During E3, videogames.com spotted a version of Quake II running on a Nintendo 64. Be sure and look up our previews of the game for more information.
