PUBG Xbox Port Benefits From Enhanced Support from Gears Dev The Coalition; “Getting the White Glove Treatment from Microsoft”-October 2024

The development team behind the PUBG Xbox port has received enhanced support from Gears of War developer The Coalition.

That’s what Microsoft’s producer on the PUBG Xbox project, Nico Bihary, told Polygon. According to the producer, the PUBG Xbox version is very much being treated as a first-party title with all of the ‘star’ treatment attached.

“It’s been quite a journey for us,”, the producer said. “There was this global assessment within Microsoft of how can we pair up with this super collaborative, super friendly and incredibly successful — in the short term — group for our partnership to deliver. As you can imagine, there were a lot of raised hands within Microsoft to offer support.

“PUBG is really getting the boutique, first-party, white-glove treatment from Microsoft.”

Apart from offering the ‘normal’ second-party services, Microsoft also offered additional services, including enhanced support from The Coalition

“By virtue of being publisher there’s some traditional housekeeping that we do,” Bihary said. “Where we are going well beyond that traditional second-party publishing relationship is by offering services like our first-party quality assurance team, offering services like our advanced technical group and enlisting folks like The Coalition to help with the aiming and tuning of controller systems.”

“We have benefitted from optimizations,” Bihary added. “We will get cool things like vaulting and climbing, and it’s our hope that at some point we’re hoping that our content roadmaps converge, but there’s still going to be a delta for some period of time.”

PUBG is slated for a release on Xbox One next week on December 12. Yesterday, Microsoft and Bluehole released a new trailer for the game during this year's Game Awards event. The trailer shows off the recently announced new upcoming desert Miramar map.

PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS was released in early-access for PC back in March of this year. The 1.0 build of the PC version will release on December 20.
