TOKYO--Sony announced that it will postpone the Japanese release of the third PSX upgrade from July 15 to August 3 due to delays in quality assurance testing. The upgrade will give first-generation models of the PSX (DESR-5000 and DESR-7000) the same capabilities as the new PSX model (DESR-5100 and DESR-7100), which hit stores in Japan at the beginning of the month. Specifically, the new upgrade will give the PSX the following additional features and capabilities:

Creation of menus for DVDs by using 50 preinstalled templates Add-on dubbing to DVD-RW (VR Mode) and DVD+RW Manual configuration of recording quality when recording shows on HDD or dubbing footage from HDD to DVD Chapter editing (when editing titles on the HDD) PlayStation BB Channel viewing (cannot download movies or games) Still images added for the visualizer screen when playing back music Burn a DVD in a single language when dubbing a bilingual show from the HDD Title editing when booking a TV recording Bug fix on the still image display function, where the slideshow used to hang when displaying large images
