PS5 Gets YouTube TV App In The US
PS5 Gets YouTube TV App In The US-November 2024
Nov 25, 2024 11:47 AM

PlayStation 5 owners now have another way to watch live TV from their console. The YouTube TV app has arrived on the console, allowing users in the US to stream live TV.

YouTube TV costs $65/month and it allows for up to three simultaneous streams, along with DVR support from the cloud. There are dozens of live channels, including major networks and local news stations. You can plug in your zipcode here to find out what's available in your area.

YouTube TV is already available on Xbox consoles, while the app was previously available on PS4 before it more recently came to PS5, as was discovered first by Android Police. A full list of compatible devices is available on Google's website.

For more on YouTube TV, check out GameSpot sister site CNET's preview of the service in the video above.

Sony previously operated its own live TV service called PlayStation Vue, but it was closed in 2020. Explaining the shutdown, Sony said, "Unfortunately, the highly competitive Pay TV industry, with expensive content and network deals, has been slower to change than we expected. Because of this, we have decided to remain focused on our core gaming business."

There aren't many live TV apps on PS5, as popular ones like Sling don't have apps on Sony's next-gen console at this point.

PlayStation isn't completely out of the TV business, however, as the company operates a movie and TV unit called PlayStation Productions. This team is behind the upcoming Uncharted movie with Tom Holland, the Last of Us TV show with HBO, and the Ghost of Tsushima movie from John Wick's Chad Stahelski.
