PS4 Streaming TV Service Gets Cheaper, Expands to More Platforms
PS4 Streaming TV Service Gets Cheaper, Expands to More Platforms-December 2024
Dec 27, 2024 11:31 PM

Sony has announced that some subscriptions for its streaming TV service, PlayStation Vue, are getting less expensive. Effective immediately, the prices for PlayStation Vue's "Core" and "Elite" packages are dropping by $5 per month. Core will be offered for $55 (instead of $60), while Elite will go for $65 (instead of $70).

PlayStation Vue's base package, called "Access," is not changing price; it will still be offered at $50/month. The price changes are effective immediately for new subscribers. Existing subscribers, meanwhile, will be billed for the lower rate during their next cycle.

By comparison, Sling TV--a similar service available now on Xbox One but not PlayStation systems--starts at $20/month and is available across the US. PlayStation Vue packages are only available in select markets. A detailed breakdown of Sling TV vs. PlayStation Vue is available through GameSpot sister site CNET.

A price drop wasn't the only piece of news Sony had to share regarding PlayStation Vue. The company also announced that the service is now available on Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, and is coming later to Google Chromecast. PlayStation Vue is already available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

In a statement, Sony confirmed that PlayStation Vue's entire suite of programming packages will be available for Amazon Fire TV and the Fire TV Stick, though the same was not said for Chromecast. Support for Google's device is coming "later this year," at which time users will also be able to access PlayStation Vue content on Chromecast through the PlayStation Vue mobile app to watch on their iOS device.

In a statement, PlayStation Vue boss Dan Myers said bringing PlayStation Vue to these new platforms allows the service to reach a whole new category of people: those who don't own a game console. He added that the Amazon and Chromecast devices are likely to be top-gifted items this holiday, meaning "now is the ideal time for us to expand PlayStation Vue access."

In other recent PlayStation Vue news, the service recently added Disney programming, including ABC Family and ESPN.
