Gamers shouldn't expect the PlayStation 4 anytime soon, according to SCEA president Jack Tretton. Speaking with IGN, Tretton said Sony remains focused on the PlayStation 3, as well as the PlayStation Vita, which it will ship next week. The PlayStation 4 is still far off, it appears.

　　"Right now, we're focused on PlayStation 3, and I've got another platform (PlayStation Vita) to get out the door in seven days, so I don't want to be thinking about trying to launch new technology any time soon," he said. "I want to focus all our energy on our console business, which is really just hitting its stride, and Vita, which really deserves a dedicated push from us."

　　Tretton went a step further, indicating that the PS4 would not be announced during 2012. He said such a move would make Sony "distracted."

　　"I, quite frankly, would be very distracted if I had to be talking about next generation hardware this year," he said.

　　The PS4 was rumored to have its coming-out party at the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo, which runs June 5-7 in Los Angeles. However, Sony's recently promoted Kaz Hirai shot that rumor down and reiterated that the PlayStation 3 will have a 10-year life cycle. That system was released in 2006.

　　As for the PS Vita, that portable launches in North America, Europe, and Australia next week in two models: a $250 Wi-Fi version and a $300 3G iteration. Sony is backing the product with a $50 million marketing push, which will promote the system on TV, online, and on billboards.
