Despite recently suffering a major delay, the PS4-exclusive zombiefest Days Gone has landed on this month’s Game Informer cover. GI is promising a full month of exclusive coverage, which they’re kicking off with the following trailer. All the footage in the trailer is brand new, so it’s definitely worth checking out.

　　Until now, all the footage we’ve seen of Days Gone has come from one relatively narrow vertical slice, so it’s interesting to see some new stuff. The quality of the clips varies pretty wildly – some of them look like they’re from a proper triple-A game, while others look like lower-budget zombie fare like State of Decay 2. There may be a good reason the game has been delayed!

　　The digital version of the Days Gone issue of Game Informer is available right now (subscribe here) and fans are, of course, already posting details. We won’t share everything here, but some interesting info about the game’s size and scope have been revealed. Apparently, Days Gone’s world contains five encampments and some city environments to explore, which you can fast travel between once you’ve rid them of infected. There will also be numerous enemy “Ambush Camps” you’ll have to clear out. Interestingly, the game reportedly won’t have any rote fetch quests or time trials, with everything having storyline context. There will also be a lot of zombies to deal with, with a crowd of 300 considered a “baby horde” (some will have over 500 shamblers).

　　Developed by SIE Bend Studio (Syphon Filter, Uncharted: Golden Abyss), Days Gone is a post-apocalyptic zombie game featuring a dynamic open world that changes depending on the time of day and weather. Here’s how Sony describes the game’s story and world:

　　“Set in the beautiful, volcanic scarred high-desert of the Pacific Northwest, Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game where you play as Deacon St. John, a Drifter and bounty hunter who would rather risk the dangers of the broken road than live in one of the “safe” wilderness encampments. The game takes place two years after a global pandemic has killed almost everyone, but transformed millions of others into what survivors call Freakers – mindless, feral creatures, more animal than human but very much alive and quickly evolving. Skills learned in his prior life as an outlaw biker have given Deacon a slight edge in the seemingly never-ending fight to stay alive. But will it be enough?”
