Earlier today Sony released the details of its upcoming PlayStation 3 v.3.70 firmware update, announcing two new features for PlayStation Plus subscribers on the official PlayStation Blog.
The update will firstly rename the Automatic Download feature to "Automatic Update" and will introduce an auto-upload function for online save data backup and trophy syncing for PlayStation Plus subscribers.
The new PS3 firmware update includes minor additions.
Other new features to be introduced in the update include a new recommendation function that will allow users to share their recommendations for PlayStation Store items with their PSN friends, as well as send messages with links from the product pages within the PlayStation Store.
Sony is also adding a new category to the XrossMediaBar (XMB) called "TV/Video Services," which will include video applications, such as Netflix, Hulu PLUS, and VUDU. Users will be able to download video applications available on the console directly from the new category and will be able to store them in a new folder labeled "My Channels."
In regard to the PS3's functionality to play Blu-ray 3D films, the update will add 3D support when accessing Java-based special features on Blu-ray, as well as DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR decoding/bit stream output (or lossless audio) support while playing Blu-ray 3D movies. 3D digital photos in MPO format will now also be able to be viewed in 3D on the XMB and in the Photo Gallery app.
According to Sony, the v.3.70 firmware update will be available soon.
