“Project Shaolin” Wu-Tang Xbox Exclusive Details Leak, All 9 Clan Members Playable-October 2024
Oct 27, 2024 6:22 AM

Back in 2021 the rather unexpected news leaked that an Xbox-exclusive Wu-Tang Clan action RPG, codenamed “Project Shaolin,” was in the works. Back then, we got word that it would support 4-player co-op, and have replayable dungeons and other challenges, as well as seasonal content, almost making it sound like Wu-Tang-themed version of Destiny. That said, we haven’t heard anything about the project since those initial leaks. Was it all a figment of our collective imaginations?

Apparently not! Reliable insider Tom Henderson has popped up with a new report on Project Shaolin, confirming previously leaked info and providing a number of new details. Appropriately, given the subject matter, Project Shaolin will feature fast-paced melee combat with a musical, rhythm-based element. All nine Wu-Tang members will be playable, although you won’t be control them all the time. It seems you’ll be able to summon them in order to unleash more powerful moves ect. (the previous reports did mention being able to call on “Wu Gods.”)

Presentation-wise, the game is said to have an bright, anime-infused visual style somewhat comparable to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Of course, the game will also have a large catalog of Wu-Tang songs to accompany the action.

Interestingly, the game will also have a social hub, where you can show off their cosmetics, listen to music and socialize. This, combined with the earlier reports of dungeons, co-op, and seasonal content seems to back up the idea that this is kind of a hip hop Destiny.

The game is in development at Brass Lion Entertainment, a Canadian-American cross-border studio founded by veterans of BioWare and Bethesda. Apparently, the game is currently in the alpha stage and is likely still a year or two away. Of course, as with all rumors, take this all with a grain of salt for now, but Henderson rarely misses.

It will be interesting to see how the game turns out. In some ways, it sounds like a fun throwback to that period in the 2000s when video games starring rappers, from Def Jam Vendetta to 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, had a bit of a moment. Hopefully, the devs focus on delivering a fun experience first rather than the live service stuff.

What are your thoughts on all of this? We know Wu-Tang is for the children, but does it sound like Project Shaolin will be for you?
