Within the last few weeks, several video game publishers have announced that certain games that were originally on the list of 33 PS2 launch titles will miss their anticipated launch on November 24. While some games will only be delayed by a week or two, some games - like Summoner - will slip to January. The fate of Rayman Revolution is still not clear. While Ubi Soft UK has stated that the game's release has been pushed back until January, other Ubi Soft offices state that this isn't true. The official release date for Rayman Revolution remains December 7. The releases of Evergrace and Eternal Ring will also slip to January, most likely due to the fact that Ubi Soft has bought Crave and as a consequence labeling and packaging might be changed. Konami's ESPN X-Games Snowboarding and ESPN International Track & Field have also been delayed.
The reasons for the delays have, until now, remained unexplained. Publishers have told GameSpot that Sony's main CD manufacturing facility in Austria has not been able to produce enough units to meet the demand for the software of both the PlayStation and the PlayStation 2. First-day shipments of Driver 2 have been much smaller than planned, and compounding the situation, Sony didn't produce enough CD/DVD boxes for PlayStation 2 software. Sony made the same mistake with the launch of PlayStation five years ago.
The current lineup of games for the European PlayStation 2 launch is as follows:
Tekken Tag Tournament
Ridge Racer V
Fantavision
Silent Scope
ISS
Gradius III&IV
NHL 2001
FIFA 2001
SSX
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2
Wild Wild Racing
Timesplitters
Dynasty Warriors 2
AquaAqua - Wetrix 2
