Angst-ridden coming-of-age tales are a common enough theme in films and Final Fantasy games, but the evergreen topic may be spreading to the casual gaming world as well. Paramount Digital Entertainment and Legacy Interactive today announced plans to make games based on three such classic flicks, with an eye toward expanding "the core casual gaming audience." The three films receiving a casual adaptation are Pretty in Pink, Clueless, and Mean Girls.

　　Remember kids: Popularity breeds contempt. Perennial runners-up in romance may be interested in Pretty in Pink on the PC, which could let players determine whether Molly Ringwald's character, Andie, ultimately chooses the hunky Blaine or the outcast Duckie. The game retells the film's story with puzzle-solving gameplay, and Paramount promises to put the characters' fates in the hands of the player.

　　Fast-forward to the '90s and Clueless: The Game. Much as Alicia Silverstone's character, Cher, fancied herself a matchmaker in the film, players will hook her girlfriends up with the right guys by judging their interests and clothes. As if that weren't asking enough, players will also have to play Cupid on a time limit. Clueless will be available for the Nintendo DS and PCs.

　　Finally, there's Mean Girls: High School Showdown for the PC. As a new student attempting to take down the "Plastics" clique of popular girls, players can restore order to the high school either by transcending petty social norms or by fighting fire with fire.

　　A Paramount Digital Entertainment representative told GameSpot that all three games are scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of the year. The representative also said that Paramount is looking to expand its gaming operations on the PC, consoles, handhelds, and the iPhone.

　　Legacy Interactive is no stranger to adaptations. The studio has developed interactive versions of the hit TV shows Law & Order, The Apprentice, and ER.
