Sep 22, 2024 1:41 PM

AMC announced today it has renewed its newest series based on a comic book: Preacher. In addition, the second season of the show, slated to premiere in 2017, would get extended to 13 episodes.

The new series revolves around Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a smalltown, Texas preacher who receives an other-worldly gift that makes people do whatever he says. He's accompanied by his tough and short-fused girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and new friend, who happens to be a vampire, Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun). The television series is based on the Vertigo comic by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.

Preacher is currently the #2 new series on cable this year, averaging 3.3 million viewers episode. President of AMC, Charrlie Collier, spoke highly of what producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and showrunner Sam Catlin have brought to the network: "What Sam, Seth, Evan and the entire creative team have achieved in bringing Garth Ennis' graphic novel to the screen is extraordinary. We look forward to more time with these unforgettable characters be it in Heaven, Hell, Texas, or beyond."

AMC will air a catch-up marathon of the first five episode of season 1 on June 30 from 9 PM until 2:35 AM on Friday morning. Preacher's current timeslot is Sundays at 9 PM.
