June's Pokemon: Trading Card Game expansion has officially been unveiled by The Pokemon Company, and just like the Battle Styles set that came before, the latest collection of cards is also based on one of Pokemon Sword and Shield's expansions. Chilling Reign takes inspiration from the Crown Tundra expansion, and its mascot pokemon include Calyrex, Glastrier, and Spectrier.
In addition to being the cover stars of the Elite Trainer Box, Calyrex's Ice Rider and Shadow Rider forms will both appear as VMAX cards. Galarian variants of the Kanto legendries, Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres will appear, with the entire set having over 190 cards to collect. There'll be over 25 trainer cards, three new Special Energy cards, 15 powerful V cards, and eight VMAX cards in the expansion.
Pokemon Trading Card Game: Chilling ReignThe battle mechanic introduced in Battle Styles will continue in Chilling Reign, as over 70 new cards are split between the Rapid and Single Strike styles. Chilling Reign will launch on June 18 and will be available through the usual booster packs, booster boxes, and Elite Trainer Boxes. If you're looking to start playing earlier though, Build & Battle Box pre-release packs will be available from June 5 and each one will include four booster packs, an alt-art promo card, and a 23-card evolution pack.
Pokemon's trading card game spin-off has been as popular as ever even during the midst of COVID-19. The Pokemon Company may have canceled the 2021 Pokemon World Championships due to the ongoing pandemic but it will return in 2022 and will be hosted in London. If you happen to have a box full of Pokemon cards from back when the trading card game first launched, it may be worth checking to see if you have a spare Charizard lying around.
YouTuber Logan Paul recently unboxed a vintage collection of Pokemon cards, and he managed to snag not one but two incredibly valuable holographic Charizards from his million-dollar box.
