Pokemon: Meltan's Evolved Form, Melmetal, Revealed; Here's How To Get It-October 2024
Oct 22, 2024 2:00 PM

The Pokemon Company has been gradually revealing more details about the new Pokemon Meltan since it (sort of) debuted in Pokemon Go following September's Community Day event. Earlier this month, we got a look at a possible second form the Mythical Pokemon would be able to assume, and now The Pokemon Company has confirmed it is indeed an evolution dubbed Melmetal.

Like its base form, Melmetal is a pure Steel-type Pokemon whose body is made up primarily of liquid metal. According to the Pokemon website, Melmetal was worshiped in ancient times because of its ability to create metal, and it is capable of learning a brand-new move called Double Iron Bash, a two-hit Steel-type attack that can make the opposing Pokemon flinch.

Now Playing: Pokemon Go Halloween Event And Meltan Evolution Revealed - GS News Update

The Pokemon Company also revealed how players will be able to obtain Melmetal in the upcoming Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee games for Switch, and it once again involves linking up with Pokemon Go. After you catch a Meltan in the mobile game, you'll need to feed it a lot of Candies to make it evolve--400, to be exact. These can be acquired by catching more Meltan in the wild, sending some to Professor Willow, and transferring some to the Switch titles. Once it has evolved, you'll then be able to send Melmetal over to Let's Go Pikachu or Eevee.

As The Pokemon Company has previously revealed, the key to catching a Meltan is the Mystery Box--an item you'll receive in Pokemon Go after you transfer a Gen 1 Pokemon over to the Let's Go games. Once the Mystery Box is opened, Meltan will spawn in the wild for a brief window of time, after which the Mystery Box will close. You'll then need to wait a certain amount of time and transfer another Pokemon to Let's Go in order for the Mystery Box to open again.

While the easiest way to get Meltan is to sync up with either of the Switch titles, it appears you won't need to have them in order to get the Mythical Pokemon. The Pokemon Company says that a new Special Research quest involving Meltan will be available sometime this winter. No further details on the quest have been provided yet.

Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee launch for Nintendo Switch on November 16. We recently had a chance to go hands-on with the games; you can read our impressions here. We also got to speak with Let's Go director Junichi Masuda about a variety of topics, including the challenges of updating Pokemon Yellow and why your rivals aren't jerks anymore.
