The Pokemon Company has announced that Pokemon fighting game, Pokken Tournament, is coming to Wii U. The game was first revealed in 2014, when it was confirmed only for Japanese arcades.
Pokken Tournament is scheduled to launch worldwide for Wii U in spring 2016. The game's Wii U version was announced in conjunction with the start of the Pokemon World Championships today in Boston, Mass.
The Wii U version of Pokken Tournament boasts "amazing graphics and smooth, fluid movements," The Pokemon Company said in a statement.
In terms of the game's character roster, the reveal trailer shows a number of Pokemon such as Lucario, Pikachu (and a special "Pikachu Libre" version), and Charizard, among others. Note, however, that the gameplay in the trailer below comes from the arcade version, not the Wii U edition.
Announced in August 2014, Pokken Tournament is in development at Tekken studio Bandai Namco. Development on the project is being overseen by veteran producer Katsuhiro Harada, who says the goal for the game is for it to appeal to all Pokemon fans.
"Whether you are a causal player, a regular player, or a hardcore player, anyone who likes Pokemon can have fun," Harada said.
