Plex Launches New Free Movie And TV Streaming Platform
Plex Launches New Free Movie And TV Streaming Platform-October 2024
Oct 21, 2024 2:18 AM

Just when you thought there were enough TV and movie streaming platforms out there, media company Plex has launched another. Plex has announced that a new ad-supported service is now available via its apps and website, offering hundreds of movies for free.

It's the result of a deal that the company has struck with Warner Bros Domestic Television Distribution. For several years, Plex has been available as a media player that allows users to organise their own movies, TV, music, and podcasts, and the new content now lives alongside users' existing libraries.

Now Playing: Disney Plus: 15 Of The Best '90s Movies To Watch At Launch

While the new service doesn't require a subscription, viewers will have to put up with non-skippable ads before and during the movies and shows. In a statement, Plex states that "We're asking for a bit of your time to watch some ads. We think it's a fair deal, but of course, you'll be the judge."

As for what is available to watch on the new Plex service, it's a mix of classics, newer independent cinema, and deep cuts from a variety of genres. The biggest movies include Rain Man, The Terminator, Raging Bull, Overboard, Frequency, and Teen Wolf. There are also cult and arthouse classics such as Django and Fitzcarraldo, music concerts and documentaries, and, of course, a whole load of stuff you've never heard of (probably for good reason).

Plex joins Disney and Apple who have launched their own streaming services in the last few months, with HBOMax and NBCUniversal's Peacock set to appear in 2020. For more check out our guide to everything that hit Disney+ in early December.
