Sources from Japan report that Gran Turismo 2000 may not be a PlayStation2 launch title anymore. Insiders have also speculated that Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) is planning to bring the racing title to the arcades. Sony is also planning to build its own arcade amusement park, similar to those of Namco and Sega in Japan. In the past, SCE has brought PlayStation titles - such as UmJammer Lammy - to the arcade scene.
Another reason for the delay of GT2000 could be to avoid competition with Ridge Racer V, one of Namco's launch titles for the PlayStation2. Hopefully, we'll have an official announcement from SCE in the near future. Stay tuned to GameSpot News for more details.
