PlayStation VR To Be Priced As A Gaming Platform, Says Sony-November 2024
Nov 14, 2024 2:41 AM

During their TGS 2015 Press Conference, Sony Computer Entertainment revealed that Project Morpheus would be officially named PlayStation VR.

Today, a report by Bloomberg says that CEO Andrew House talked about the price, hinting that it would be a similar cost to a gaming platform.

This would seem to suggest at least a price around $/€ 300, which may very well scare off many potential customers of PlayStation VR. Still, House is adamant about the technology's potential:

VR rewrites the rule book on how you can create games. You’re seeing a large amount of interest and work happening among smaller teams, because it’s possible to create something in VR that is very simple but still very magical.

Apparently, Sony will offer more than 10 titles to choose from when the device launches in early 2016. Announced games include Guerrilla Cambridge's RIGS, CCP's Eve Valkyrie, Gaijin's War Thunder, nDreams' The Assembly, Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIV and Studio Wildcard's Ark: Survival Evolved.

In related news, it has been revealed that PlayStation VR will now support an additional display refresh rate at 90Hz. We already knew that the device supports 60Hz rendering which turns into 120Hz via reprojection technology, and of course there's the native 120Hz rendering for those developers who seek to push the limits.

In a few months, at least three major VR devices will enter the market: PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive.

Now, they will be able to choose native 90Hz as well, which has been deemed by Oculus to be the bare minimum in order to avoid visible flickering.

In just a few months, at least three major VR devices will enter the market: PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive. Do you plan to buy any of these and if so, which one? Tell us in the comments!
