PlayStation may have its own State of Play event coming soon, followed by a bigger PlayStation showcase event sometime before June, according to Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb. On his daily news show Game Mess Mornings, Grubb said that while plans could shift, he expects to see a State of Play within the next month.

　　"A State of Play should be happening in the next few weeks to month," Grubb said. "In that range, next few weeks to a month, we should see a State of Play. At least that's the current plan, right now. These things have shifted before."

　　Grubb went on to state that it's not just a State of Play in the works, as a PlayStation Showcase is also said to be on the way sometime before E3. He later clarified that by E3, he simply means the general timeframe of when E3 takes place, which is in June.

　　PlayStation Showcase events are bigger, comparable to the Showcase events held in the fall of 2020 and 2021. He said Sony had planned to do a PlayStation Showcase last year, but "developers couldn't get their assets up in a way that was satisfactory to justify a Showcase, so they ended up doing a State of Play instead." He did note again that it's possible plans will shift. He expects the Showcase will help fill out Sony's upcoming release calendar. Right now we know very little about Sony's upcoming release calendar, though we do know of some games that don't yet have release dates, like a sequel to Insomniac's Spider-Man.

　　Sony's State of Play events occur semi-regularly, giving PlayStation fans updates on upcoming games. More companies have been embracing this kind of direct messaging, and at the same time, fewer have been taking part in big annualized events like E3. Sony and Nintendo have stepped back from direct involvement in E3 in recent years, and Microsoft has held its own event adjacent to E3 at the Microsoft Theater. This year, E3 is being run by ReedPop rather than the ESA itself, but none of the three platform-holders have announced their plans.
