It's not just Microsoft and Xbox that had a strong Black Friday.
Sony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House says in a new interview that PlayStation enjoyed its biggest Black Friday in company history this year, though he did not disclose any specific figures.
"We've just seen the most successful Black Friday in the company's history," he told Financial Times. "Rumors of the demise of the console have been greatly exaggerated."
He added: "We are now trying to benchmark against the success of the PlayStation 2--or exceed it if possible." With more than 150 million units sold, the PS2 is the best-selling console in history.
Financial Times reports that the PS2 sold 51 million units in the three years following its launch in March 2000 and hit 100 million units by the end of 2005. As of November 2015, two years into the PS4's lifecycle, the console had sold some 30 million systems around the world.
House went on to say that he was "hesitant to predict" that the PS4 would eventually overtake the PS2, however, given "the cadence at which people expect innovation" has sped up in recent years.
Whatever the case, the PS4 is undoubtedly off to a strong start--and the Xbox One is, too. Compared to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the PS4 and and Xbox One are up on a double-digit percentage basis compared to where the last-generation consoles were over the same period of time.
