PlayStation Handheld Project Q Battery Life is Below Par, Tom Henderson Says-October 2024
Oct 21, 2024 7:46 PM

According to Insider-Gaming's Tom Henderson, the PlayStation Project Q battery life might not be as you expected.

Last week during Sony's PlayStation showcase, PlayStation head Jim Ryan officially announced Sony's rumored remote PlayStation handheld - Project Q. This upcoming new PlayStation portable will allow players to play their PS5 titles using Remote Play in 1080p resolution at 60FPS on an 8-inch LCD display with full DualSense features. Basically, we're looking at a split DualSense controller with adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and an LCD screen.

“Project Q is a dedicated device launching later this year that enables you to play any compatible game installed on your PS5 console using Remote Play over Wi-Fi", Jim Ryan said upon the announcement of the device. "With a vibrant 8-inch LCD screen capable of up to 1080p resolution at 60fps, the device delivers crisp visuals and smooth gameplay streamed from your PS5 when you’re away from your TV. All of the buttons and features of the DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, are featured on the device.”

Fancy stuff for those interested, but what about the device's battery and power use? Additional details haven't been shared just yet by Sony, but known leaker Tom Henderson now reports that the battery life of Sony's handheld is below par with the battery lasting only for roughly 3 to 4 hours on a single charge.

"Prepare yourselves, because Insider Gaming understands that the Project Q battery life will be around 3-4 hours", the leaker writes in a new article on Insider-Gaming.

If true, this would put Sony's Project Q well below the Nintendo Switch when it comes to battery life, but around or somewhat above that of the battery life of the Steam Deck and ASUS Rog Ally. Of course, you will have to consider that Sony's handheld is a streaming-only device, while the Switch, Steam Deck, and ROG Ally are dedicated gaming handheld devices.

We'll update you as soon as more information about Sony's Project Q comes in. For now, stay tuned and discuss this rumored battery life, or Sony's streaming handheld in general, down below. Do you believe that this new rumor about the handheld's battery life is correct? Did you expect more from it?

The PlayStation "Project Q" will be released somewhere later this. More details about the device are promised to be released in the coming months. Hopefully, Sony will set an adequate price level for its handheld.
