PlayStation 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 Trademarked By SIE In Japan-October 2024

The PlayStation 5 console has yet to be released, yet Sony is thinking far ahead into the future with a few new trademarks which have been filed in Japan.

Today, it's been confirmed that Sony Interactive Entertainment trademarked the PlayStation name from PlayStation 6 until PlayStation 10. This is not surprising at all, as the filing has been made for security reasons, as trademarks from the original PlayStation to the PlayStation 5 had been filed years before the consoles' actual release.

Not much is currently known about the next PlayStation console so far. The full reveal will only be coming next year, and rumors state that the console's CPU clock speed will be 3.2 GHz, and that it will play all PlayStation games natively.

Mark Cerny himself confirmed some new PlayStation 5 details earlier this month.

Even though it will be fairly fast to boot games, we don't want the player to have to boot the game, see what's up, boot the game, see what's up. Multiplayer game servers will provide the console with the set of joinable activities in real time. Single-player games will provide information like what missions you could do and what rewards you might receive for completing them—and all of those choices will be visible in the UI. As a player, you just jump right into whatever you like.

The controller (which history suggests will one day be called the DualShock 5, though Cerny just says "it doesn't have a name yet") does have some features Cerny's more interested in acknowledging. One is "adaptive triggers" that can offer varying levels of resistance to make shooting a bow and arrow feel like the real thing—the tension increasing as you pull the arrow back—or make a machine gun feel far different from a shotgun. It also boasts haptic feedback far more capable than the rumble motor console gamers are used to, with highly programmable voice-coil actuators located in the left and right grips of the controller.

The PlayStation 5 console will be released during the 2020 Holiday season worldwide.
