PlayStation 4 launch-day apps confirmed-November 2024
Nov 21, 2024 7:17 PM

When the PlayStation 4 launches next Friday, users will be able to download 11 entertainment applications, including Netflix and Hulu Plus, Sony announced today.

In addition to Netflix and Hulu Plus, PS4 users will be able to download apps for Amazon Instant Video, Crackle, Crunchyroll, EPIX, NBA Game Time, NHL GameCenter Live, Redbox Instant, VUDU, and YuppTV.

This list is specific to the United States. Sony has not provided a list of apps for Europe or other regions.

A PlayStation Plus subscription ($50/year) is not required to access these entertainment apps, Sony confirmed last week as part of a comprehensive PS4 FAQ. However, users will need to have a separate subscription for individual services.

These 11 entertainment apps are in addition to Sony's own Music Unlimited streaming service and Video Unlimited, the company's on-demand movie and TV program.

"The PS4 is the most powerful gaming system ever created, which enables us, along with our partners, to add amazing entertainment options to the platform that we know PlayStation fans are going to love," SCEA senior vice president of business development Phil Rosenberg said.

The PS4 launches on November 15 for $400. Microsoft has not yet disclosed a list of entertainment apps that will be available for that platform's launch on November 22.
