Not to be outdone by similar announcements by Nintendo and Microsoft, Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced sales numbers during the Thanksgiving week for its PlayStation 2 and PSOne consoles. During the week of November 19, the company sold 317,000 units of the PlayStation 2 and 100,000 units of the PSOne. The following week, Sony sold 321,000 PS2 units and more than 100,000 PSOne consoles. According to SCEA, the sales numbers show that the launch of the two competing consoles had little effect on the sales of the PlayStation 2.

　　"We experienced record-breaking sales for the PlayStation family of products during the Thanksgiving time period and expect this trend to continue throughout the holidays,'' said Jack Tretton, senior vice president for Sony Computer Entertainment America. "For the first time since the introduction of PlayStation 2 in 2000, consumers have the opportunity to choose from multiple new console offerings. Competitive marketing efforts drove consumers to retail and many chose to purchase our products once they compared the benefits of each system. Overall in 2001, we forecast that 66 percent, or 2 out of every 3 retail console dollars, will result from sales of PlayStation products."

　　Since its launch on October 26, 2000, Sony has sold more than 6 million units of the PlayStation 2 console in North America. Some of the best-selling games for the console have been Konami's Metal Gear Solid 2, EA's SSX Tricky, Capcom's Devil May Cry, and Take-Two Interactive's Grand Theft Auto III.
