Unsurprisingly, Atari's remake of the classic Centipede on the Dreamcast plays almost exactly like Centipede on the PlayStation (you may want to link to that review). Namely, instead of being in space, you're now tossed into a 3D world where your job is to shoot as many centipedes as you can.
You can choose from four views ranging from a bird's eye top-down view to the extreme first-person view. Seeing the world of Centipede from the first-person viewpoint is probably the most exciting, as you can see with stunning detail exactly how menacing the centipedes really are. Each segment of the centipede has eyes, legs, and a huge set of fangs. You'll also be able to see other cool stuff like the wee-people, the mushrooms, and the houses you're sent to protect.
Obviously, sound and graphics have been improved quite a bit over its PlayStation brother, but the gameplay hasn't changed a bit. You'll use the shoulder buttons to strafe in the appropriate direction and the analog control to point you exactly where you want to go. Of course, all the power-ups and extras have been carried over as well.
For retro gamers who want a true Centipede experience, the Dreamcast version also comes with the original game. The translation appears to be pretty good.
With the Dreamcast's graphics and sound and Atari's spiffy remake of its classic, Centipede looks like it may be a winner.
