There appears to be no stopping to PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS momentum, but one shouldn’t forget that the online battle royale wouldn’t be here without H1Z1.
At least, that’s what General Manager at Daybreak Game’s, Anthony Castoro, said during a recent interview with website IGN. Castoro said as much after being asked whether PUBG’s success has effected H1Z1’s development. “There wouldn’t be a PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds if there wasn’t an H1Z1”, he told IGN.
According to the game manager, PUBG is a clear fast follow opportunity, and PUBG creator Brendan ‘PLAYERUNKNOWN’ Greene actually learned a lot from his work on H1Z1 at DayBreak. “I think there was a lot of mentoring that went on for Brendan,” Castoro said, “because he hadn’t done commercial games before, he had done mods. He learned a lot, I think probably, from the development cycle there. It’s kind of why I say there wouldn’t be PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds without H1Z1.”
Greene was initially hired as a consultant by Daybreak Game’s (then Sony Online Entertainment) to implement his Battle Royale mod into DayZ’s standalone game, H1Z1.
