Pixar: No Sequels Planned After Cars 3, Toy Story 4, and The Incredibles 2-September 2024

Looking for WALL-E 2 or Ratatouille 2? It sounds like you'll have to wait a while, if they ever come out. A Pixar boss has spoken up to say the acclaimed film company does not have any sequels on its schedule after Cars 3 (2017), Toy Story 4 (2018), and The Incredibles 2 (2019).

Pixar president Jim Morris told Entertainment Weekly that the company is making an effort to focus on original content. "Everything after Toy Story [4] and The Incredibles [2] is an original right now," he explained.

Morris further explained that Pixar's approach is unique in the film industry.

"Most studios jump on doing a sequel as soon as they have a successful film, but our business model is a filmmaker model, and we don't make a sequel unless the director of the original film has an idea that they like and are willing to go forward on," he said.

"A sequel in some regards is even harder [than the original] because you’ve got this defined world which, on the one hand, is a leg up, and on the other hand has expectations that you can't disappoint on."

Morris also mentioned that Inside Out director Pete Docter "has an original idea" for his next movie. Additionally, Ratatouille director Brad Bird is now working on The Incredibles 2, which means "we haven't really spoken about [a sequel] to that." As for WALL-E, Morris said it is "close to [his] heart" because he produced it and hopes a sequel can be made someday, though he stressed it's not in the works now.

"It would be good to back and visit that world and let everybody know that the humans actually survived again after getting back to their burnt-out planet," he said. "But that was really a love story that had its beginning, middle, and end, so we're not really planning any further stories in those worlds at this point."

Pixar's latest movie was this summer's smash hit animated sequel, Finding Dory, which broke animation records.
