The upcoming Pixar movie Luca will be the latest movie from the animation studio to skip theaters entirely and be released directly to Disney+. Now several Pixar employees have spoken about their unhappiness with parent company Disney's decision to send the movies directly to streaming.

　　Insider spoke to "several Pixar sources" about how frustration was growing within the studio about Disney's plans for Luca, which follows last year's Disney+ releases of Soul and Onward. Insider states that Pixar staff would only speak anonymously, and Disney has not commented on the report.

　　One employee commented on the fact although Luca will be available on Disney+ at no extra cost when it releases in June, March's Disney+ release Raya and Last Dragon had an additional cost. "Luca doesn't even have a premium price next to it," the source said. "Does it make it lesser? It's hard to grasp."

　　Another explained that they thought the experience will be far less by watching Pixar on a smaller screen at home. "We don't want to be a title just on Disney Plus," they said. "These movies are crafted for the big screen. We want you to watch these movies with no distractions, no looking at your phones."

　　However, Insider did also speak to some Pixar employees who weren't as unhappy about Disney's plans for the company. One stated "if I'm doing this so my name can be on the big screen, I'm doing it for the wrong reasons." In addition, Insider reports that Disney were very happy with audience numbers for Soul in December, which might have contributed to the decision to give Luca a similar release.

　　The decision to release Luca directly to Disney+ was announced in March. In addition, the live-action movies Cruella and Black Widow are heading to the service in May and July respectively, but these will have an additional Premier Access cost.
