Nintendo announced today that the cool-looking Pikachu New 3DS XL that launched in Japan last year is coming to the West. The system arrives in North America on February 24, priced at $200.
The yellow handheld features a drawing of Pikachu on it. It doesn't come with any bundled games or other extras, however. Here's the design:
In a statement, Nintendo reiterated that the final quarter of 2016 represented the "most successful" three-month period in 3DS history as it relates to game sales. Pokemon Sun and Moon were called out as being top performers, combining to sell 4.5 million copies in the United States alone.
Nintendo also outlined its upcoming 3DS software slate, which includes Mario Sports Superstars on March 24. There will be Amiibo cards themed around the game coming out that day as well, priced at $5 each. Nintendo added that, for a limited time, Superstars the game will come with one Amiibo card.
Additionally, Nintendo reminded fans that a new Pikmin game for 3DS is also on the way, scheduled to arrive in 2017. Finally, Nintendo announced that more 3DS games are joining the $20 Nintendo Selects lineup, including Kirby Triple Deluxe and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. Both arrive in mid-February and join existing Nintendo Select 3DS titles such as Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.
Nintendo will launch a new console, the Switch, in March. It lets users play games at home and on the go, but Nintendo believes the Switch and the 3DS can successfully coexist.
