Phillips Electronics has announced that it has been selected as the second source to provide the DVD drive for Microsoft's Xbox console. Phillips' optical storage group will provide the drive. Thomson Multimedia is the primary DVD driver provider for the Xbox, and its subsidiary company, Technicolor, is the primary replication house for producing the DVD discs. As recently reported, according to Microsoft, the option DVD remote and playback software for the Xbox will carry a retail price of $29. The Xbox will launch on November 8.
