Some of the best computer gamers in the country are gathering in San Francisco this weekend for the season-three championships of the one-year-old Professional Gamers' League. Thirty-two players are competing for a share of US$70,000 in cash and close to US$50,000 in prizes in the competition, running today through Nov. 14 (Saturday) at San Francisco's Club-i.
The competitors in the PGL singles (one-on-one) categories (which feature Quake II and Starcraft) are vying for US$8,500 in cash and more than US$4,500 in prizes, which include a 350MHz CyberMax PC featuring the AMD-K6-2 processor with 3DNow! Technology. In the Action Teamplay (four-on-four Quake) competition, the winning clan's members will split US$14,000 in cash, while the other three clans will share US$16,000 in prize money.
Bay Area radio station KMEL-FM will broadcast live from the PGL championship matches, which are set for Saturday.
